Body Temp Question

My BP feels cool to the touch. I this normal? He has been staying on the cool side for the past couple of weeks. Normal?? The warm side is 89-91 belly heat. The cool side is low 80's. He is active, and eats like a champ. Just a quick question.

BTW, just took my kids to see a "Rain forest" show. They had a beutiful 100lb albino burmese(sp?) python. AWSOME!

In all actuality he should feel a bit cool to you. Your internal body temp is appox 98.6 degrees and if your bp feels warm to the touch he would be close to that temp. I dont think he should feel cold, but cool is pretty much normal as far as i know.

Yep, lately I've been wondering why I get my bp out and she feels cool to me. Then I remembered, ya, my hands are like 98.6 degrees so anything less than that feels cooler.

If you're real worried, you could always get a temp gun and measure the actual temperature of your snakes body. I want to get my hands on a temp gun for just that reason. Not for any real good reason though...just curious I guess.

My bp feels cool too, especially in the evening hours when I drop the temp in the tank. You say he's been hanging out in the cool side, he might be about to shed if he's been near the water. My bp gets really active also when he's about to shed.

I wouldn't worry about the feeling cool to the touch thing, every one else pretty much said everything i was going to. As for the activity thing, thats good, lately all my snakes have been "hide monsters" hehe
Mine really only seem to get active when they're about to make a big bowel movement...and then i get the joys of a good old tank cleaning :|

My bp has been getting active recently. I think it's because I finally straightened out the temperatures in her cage though, and I rearranged her tank, so she's all active and playful, lol. She must like how I have it now.

Oh, and petie, in case you don't know, you don't have to lower the tanks temps at night manually. Any natural temp drop at night will be fine, but they dont need any temp drop at all.

most of my snakes body temps are around 79-82 deg. most of my cages are around 84-88 deg. hope this may help! temps were taken with a laser thermometer.
