Can't decide which morph to add

I'm wanting to add another male to my collection this summer but in having a hard time deciding which to add. Either a lesser het clown, or a Calider. The obvious answer is get both. But for now I only want to add one. I love how they both look, I like the looks of the spider combo better, but I like how the lesser combo compliments what I already have. And from what I've found, a quality animal of each combo runs about the same price point.

Right now I have 1 male a coral glow, and 2 females, an enchi and a pastel het clown. The plan is to make coral glow clowns eventually by back breeding babies from the CG and pastel pairing and hope I luck out in getting a CG clown quickly. But right now without adding another male, all the male holdbacks with be a CG combo.

So with my plans, I won't be breeding the lesser get clown to the het clown pastel for a few years. But I can make a bunch of possible hets by breeding him to ye enchi female. And holding back some babies to cross with the CG X pastel babies.

It's a hard decision for me. I like the Calider better, but I feel the lesser het clown has more possibilities that I like the looks of. I'm still new to breeding and reading morphs, so I want to keep the genes I'm working with easy to identify and keep a small collection where I like the looks of all possible combinations. I also want to start with simple one or two gene combos where it's easy to see what each gene does. And to see and show what the base form of each end looks like. For now, these are the genes that do it for me. Eventually I'll probably have both, but for now, only one.

I know that in the end it's all up to me and what I like. But I'd like a few opinions on the possibilities.

Have you considered a clown female? It will cost a little more but it will cut a lot of time and guess work on possible hets.

I wouldn't waste my time trying to prove out possible hets with only a het female to my name. You will very likely spend several very frustrating years holding back and then trying to prove out all of your possible het Clown males with only a single het Clown girl at your disposal. Even with a known het Clown x het Clown pairing, the odds are only 1 in 4 of producing a Clown. It would be perfectly normal to not hatch any Clowns at all for a couple of seasons even when you know both animals are hets.

It'll be a little more expensive up front, but trust me - it'll be so much more worth it when the hatchlings you produce from your CG x Clown pairing are guaranteed het Clowns you can breed back to their momma for a guaranteed 1 in 2 shot at clowns the very next year.

Second the visual clown. If you watch you will find a decent deal on one. Also breeding possible hets gives horrible odds. As you can't know if you even have the gene that you want to work with. Trust me I know. If you do 50%hets you have to keep and breed everything just to find out what has what. And then if you are doing possible het to het. It could take several years to prove out. As het to het odds are 1/4 per egg. You can breed 100%hets and not get a visual.

Don't know why that slipped my mind. I guess I was thinking a visual female was more expensive than what they are. I finally looked on morph market. That does sound a lot better.

With four people giving you the same advice it must be some solid advice XD

If you aren't too attached I'd sell the het girl and buy a homozygous female to maybe go along with that lesser het clown male. Depends on what you can afford really. Either way I'd say a homozygous female is your best bet.

I may take your advise and sell that pastel het. Though right now she's finally getting close to breeder size. I've had her about a year now at 800g and she's just topped 1200g and is eating well on medium rats. I'd like to get one breeding through her before I plan to sell her at this point. And hopefully produce an enchi CG pastel. I like how they look, but don't know how they age with the CG fading and the pastel browning, how that will equal out. Plus I've gotta raise up the clown to be large enough and get through quarantine
