    Which Thermostat should I get?

My rack was damaged when I moved back in November. Now that my tax return has come in, I'm finally able to replace the heat tape and update the thermostat. I'm ordering from Reptile Basics and I'm getting 4ft of 12" heat tape and I need to figure out which thermostat to get. The 4ft of heat tape will be just under 100w and I hope to use this thermostat to run other racks in the future but for now, it will just run the one. Which thermostat would be the best option for me?

    Which Thermostat should I get?

Looks like there are a lot more versions since I last bough VE thermostats. What's your budget? If you plan on using this thermostat on multiple racks, get the x2 one.

    VE-200 at a minimum
VE-300x2 if you can afford it.

Also... I can never say enough good things about herpstat

How many racks you plan on getting/building in the future? I would get one that you won't have to replace and get a bigger or another smaller one later. But of course if you plan to have 2 on one side of the room and 2 on another I would just get 2 herpstat 2 or depending on how you plan to setup a herpstat 4. I like the idea of 2 herpstat 2 so your not stuck with configuring your snake room. There's more flexibility

Is herpstat a brand of thermostat you'd prefer over the VE? I was only going to get a VE because I can get it from the same site I'm getting my heat tape from. I'd like to not spend more than $120 on a single thermostat.

Yes Herpstat is the name of the thermostat. From the research I've done, it is the one I'd like to use myself. It is close to your price range, you might even find it for that. I know there is a seller on ebay that has them new for $139 if I remember correctly. Just make sure it fits your needs, that one is the herpstat 1. If you need to go up to the Herpstat 2 I believe it is $179.

That is a little out of my price range. I've been using the Helix DBS-1000 for my racks forever. If the VE are good thermostats, I might just stick with that.

I've used VE's in the past. They are just fine get the VE200. Proportional pulse is better than on off. It will be more consistent which is desirable for a rack thermostat.

You learn something new every day. I have actually never heard of proportional pulse and had to look it up. I'm using a ranco at the moment but once I build the racks in the summer I may look at VE or Herpstat when the time comes.

I would say pulse is TECHNICALLY still on/off, but it adjusts a lot faster. true proportional is constantly running power, just at lower levals depending on what the probe is reading.
