I'm not 100% certain but he just doesn't look like a calico to me. I still think that he's a pastel with darker than usual dorsal color, which makes his nice high light sides really stand out. Being het pied could definitely influence his appearance, even if there isn't anything specific that you could distinctly identify as a "marker."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't Pieds a simple recessive trait? If so, there should be no phenotype indicating an animals has the gene.

I talked to the guy that I got him from and he'll guarantee he's a male pastel het pied with parents of a visual pied (I assume normal since that's all he said and a pastel 100% het pied. So we'll find out in a couple years maybe or even when he gets bigger if he gets more pronounced or anything

I'm pretty new but from what I understand even though a pied is a recessive there are possible het pied "markers" and sometimes even a het pied can "influence" suttle changes in color or variation

In BPs, it can actually be debated whether or not there are any true recessive traits at all. We know that many recessive morphs in their het form can and do affect color and pattern subtly - Pied, Clown, Hypo, etc all tend to do this. In classic genetics, this shouldn't be the case. In ball python genetics, though, we still refer to them as recessive genes. You learn something new every day, right?

This is my pastel het pied (proven). He has high white like yours, calico-like. I don't think it's anything, just odd variation in pattern.
