OK... I recently adopted a 20 (yes 20) year old ball python from some friends and he's been doing pretty well... some shedding problem but I think we have fixed those... and today while I was handling him he started making noises... not all the time just every once in a while... a weird sort of squeaking... is he actually wheezing or is this a normal sound they make? Also, his under scales have small faint pink lines down the center of each... is this normal or could my bp be sick? I wanted to check before I freak out and call the vet. Thanks for the help!

Normally BP do not make any noise (at least I have never heard anything come out of mine). They do make a hissing kind of noise if they don't want to be bothered though. Sorry I am not that well versed in the noises a snake makes or if it could be something serious, but there will be someone here that can answer that question for ya. But with your pink scales, when a BP gets ready to shed their belly do get a faint pink color to them. Has he or is his eyes "blue" clouded yet? If they are or have been then he isgetting ready shed. sorry i can't more help, but somone will give a better hand than I did.

Your snake is getting ready to shed and the noise you are hearing is from very slight obstruction of his breathing passages -- nothing to worry over. Now would be a very good time to raise the humidity in his enclosure to 70% or so for the next several days. Welcome to the site!

Really?
I just helped him get the last of his previous shed off... do they shed that often? Or did the previous owner have some serious problems with helping him through his previous sheds.... weird... well, I'm glad he isn't sick at least.
Thanks!

Welcome to the site is right! We're glad to have ya around . How long ago did he shed, and how long was the previous shed on there? More than likely he is getting ready to shed again as Marla said.
