    exo terra incubator???

ok, I am currently planning on breeding and I am looking into getting a incubator (planning way ahead) I thought about building my own (like in the diy stickie) but the way the temps in my house go up and down daily!!! I thought it would be best to buy one that would automatically heat and cool as needed like the exo terra incubators http://www.valuepetsupplies.com/exo-...auAaAjHl8P8HAQ

would you recommend me getting this one, I looked into the hotbox incubators but I really don't have the money for one that is that expensive since I will only be starting with breeding one female. $150 is about as much as I want to put into one but I also want quality if $150 wont get me the one I need to keep eggs from failing then I will hold off on that part being I have 2 to 3 yrs before I will even need one unless I get breeder size snakes because the life of the egg is more important to me than spending less money.... any suggestions? thank you

If you have a few years then that's a few years to save up for an expensive one if that's what you want. I built my own from a wine cooler that I think looks great and has had no issues. The biggest expense and aspect of it not keeping up with room temp fluctuations is having it properly insulated and a good thermostat. I have directions for this one posted. Was well under $200 with half of that being the herpstat.

The internal demension of the exoterra are too small to make a good ball python incubator the fan in the back keeps you from putting a proper sized box it in. You'll note on the box the measurements say + - on them. That minus is more than an inch. If you get a small clutch that isn't stuck together you can be fine but a larger clutch or one awkwardly positioned won't fit.

Too small you are better off building something that will allow you to grow in and will have a RELIABLE thermostat which will be the most expensive and most important piece of equipment you will need for your incubator.

DIY forum has many great incubator DIY, after that if you want to buy one I recommend C-Serpent.

    Re: exo terra incubator???

I don't recommend it at all I bought that exact one and it does work for hatching but I have the problem of mine always dropping 2f to 3f during the night and sometimes just shut off and you can find alot of other people online with similar and different problems with the same one and different models but I have an incubator made from a heat mat dimmer switch water bottles and a cooler and that thing works 100× better

I have fit my ball pythons eggs in here but I could never do more then 10 to 12 eggs depending on the size as only 2 rubbermaids would fit and still be at the right temps
