For a hatchling or young ball python, that is too deep. ... not saying they can't survive in that, but they would feel much more secure in a lower roofed enclosure.

Ya know what? Never mind. This whole snakekeeping world is based off of personal opinions. So if you wanna keep a BP in a tub that deep, have at it. ... I've just studied a LOT on Ball Pythons and I know what all of the super experienced people say suits them best. .. but you're right COLUBRID, they could live in that I'm sure.

You are over thinking my post. It was only to bring to the attention of others the new(to me) type of tub I found. Many like me have had our keeper gear for a while and I had not been to Target in a long time for tubs cause I have plenty. But when I found a new option that was better than the other locking tubs I use for snake transport I wanted to let others know that may be like me and not be in the know of what Target currently has.

Its been over two years since I last bought a tub and Im sure there are plenty of others that are the same. That's one of the great things with this hobby. The gear, if good, doesn't need to be replaced until a better option comes around.

Thanks, sounds pretty easy! If you don't mind (not to pull the thread off topic), can you post a pic on where you placed the CHE? Did you just put it over the lid of the tub?

I don't currently have a pic of it but I can explain it. Its simple.

I have several of these Zoomed lamp stands that I used before I had a heated snake room. All I did was hang the CHE from the lamp stand and position the CHE to point right where I wanted the hotspot on a perch. I attached the tstat probe to the wire rim of the fixture and then adjusted the height of the lamp stand and the tstat until I got the desired temperatures.

I have heated several tubs with heat lamps over the years and the lamp stands make it a snap. This is the first time Ive done it with a CHE though. It is working well but took longer to get it right than it did in the past with a heat lamp.

Good deal. I have one rack but still regularly use tubs to hold my snakes while I clean their cage or of course when I go pick one up. This taller tub will be easier to put my larger snakes in too. The thin ones are easy for them to get over the edge and try to escape. Trying to wrestle a 6ft 30lb Blood into a thin tub is like trying to herd cats.

The few tubs I have that had locks always made me nervous as they really weren't locks and I think in most cases my bigger snakes could have come out at will. This new one I got though gives me a real sense of security and like I said will be my go to transport tub once the ETB is moved into her PVC Cage which the email I got today said should be here in three weeks. Just like the AP T8 I bought. In three weeks its gonna be an early Christmas.

Update: at the Container Store by coincidence and found this guy. Seems like really good quality, and it's the same height as the Sterilite 32 qt but with almost double the volume. I think I'll buy one for Donuts to have when she grows up!

True, but I think it is still a valued feature. When you latch the lid down the seal really snugs the lid against the tub and makes a much better seal than a regular tub. Many tubs will have a gap of some sort because the lid fits poorly to the tub but that is not the case with these.

Dude, relax. No one is saying you should start a hatchling in there with one hide and a water bowl.
All I'm saying is that, given enough cover and other additions to make it useful, a ball python can benefit from a larger and more enriched environment. That does not mean a wide open space with nothing to fill it up.

I use the Ziploc version of this tub and they are awesome. I've kept kingsnakes, bull snakes, and carpet pythons in these. They're very secure .
