    Bedding question!

Okay so I got some spare bedding in a tub from a friend who had extra. I was told it was aspen, but the chips are a bit large than I am used to seeing. I figured it was just a different brand, I have been using this bedding for my snakes and rats for the past 2 weeks. Well today I saw a picture of pine bedding, and it looks very similar to what I have and now I'm a bit worried, as I've heard about the dangers of pine and cedar.

I plan to replace the bedding asap, but I live a bit out of town and won't be headed back in for a few days. Will they be okay? Should I be worried about them having been on possible pine for about 2 weeks? I haven't seen any difference in their behavior or any signs of RI in either the snakes or rats. I have switched the snakes to paper towels just in case, but don't have shredded paper alternatives for the rats.

The dangers of pine are not from the wood itself, its from the phenols in the wood. So something like kiln dried pine is fine. Now with that said, I still prefer to not use it but honestly unless the stuff smells strongly of pine, you are probably ok for a couple weeks.

Oh good! The smell wasn't strong enough for me to realize it was possibly pine. I wish I had the original packaging to tell what it really is.
