    2 Q's- Humidity, live feeding

I run to UTH's on my tank so I have two accurite gauges inside. Hot side by water bowl reads mid 40's humidity, cool side reads 56. Should I try to increase some or leave that as is?

My new girl has been fed live so want to stick with that at least for the first few meals. I've never done live feeding so my question is- if she doesn't eat what the heck do I do with it? (Rat pup/fuzzy)

Re: 2 Q's- Humidity, live feeding

I feed live. I have a finicky eater. I've found myself having to have a habitat (temporary) for the rat when he doesn't eat it. Funny story: Several weeks ago he wasn't eating the rat (african soft fur), tried feeding every week for about 3 weeks. I was getting tired of keeping this thing alive, it was stinking up the place, feeding and watering weren't set up like it should be for what was becoming a permanent resident. So, about that feed attempt, after I put the rat in the cage with the BP I noticed 3 babies. Great, now I have to keep them around. Thankfully we just got another BP, a small hatchling who was eating fuzzies. So, she has since eating a little bigger, so when these things are little bigger they will make meals soon. And momma rat will go to my male again and hopefully he will eat her this time. He has eaten since this whole fiasco began, we started to wonder if he was eating because he knew she was prego. Anyway, that's what happens to rats at my house when my BPs don't eat.

About your humidity. You really should maintain at/above 50% and ~60%-65% when they are shedding.

    Humidity is fine.

What to do with a rat pup/fuzzy? You euthanize it, they are not weaned and therefore will starve to death without their mother being present to feed them. Rats are weaned at 3 weeks of age.

What's the best way to euthanize? I don't mind keeping some frozen around for when I get her switched over.

I used dry ice. Was very fast and easy. Lots of vids on youtube with instructions. The dry ice cost $1.50.
