I would say so. If you only had them for a few days when they got sick it's simply the breeders fault. I bought a snake last month that got an upper respiratory infection 3 days later and the breeder denied me my refund because he said it was my fault. I ended up paying 240 to the vet.

If you got it from a pet shop, then for sure go talk to them. Some have vets they use so they will probably take him in and have their vet check him out at no cost to you if its only been a few days. If it's from a breeder, the problem is the breeder has no control over the animal once it leaves his hands. They try and pack them the best they can but sometimes stuff happens. You can talk to the breeder but the best I would expect is him offering you a discount on another animal in the future. I wouldn't expect a refund as I said above, its more or less out of their hands once it leaves their hands. Give it a shot, if its a reputable breeder, I'm sure he/she will try and help or offer you some kind of a deal, just don't expect them to pay the vet bill or anything like that. I would be really surprised if he told you to send it back as a sick animal like that could really mess up his business if it spread somehow.

Also were the animals kept together? In the same room? No quarantine? From the same breeder? What are the cage conditions? Humidity? Temps? Did they eat? What did they eat? Lots of unknowns there.

    Depends/don't know

I think it's a tough call. I don't know enough to be able to judge what caused the RI. If I was the breeder and nothing else in my collection was showing signs I would doubt it was my fault. That being said, I would want to keep a good reputation so I would consider it. The problem is the breeder has no clue what happened to the snake once it left his hands. I would contact the breeder, tell them everything you did as far as housing the animals and then ask them for a refund.

    Sure hope you quarantined them...........
An RI is usually brought on from stress and it sounds like all the moving them around didn't help.

Well it sounds like the snakes probably developed issues with all the moving multiple times in the past weeks. Plus housing them together would have me worried right off the bat. Hard call there. I mean if its sort of a friend, I would think she would help you out but also if she is selling off her whole collection, then she probably wont want them back. Sounds like you might be stuck between a rock and hard place. I mean you can try and give them back to her and if that doesn't work, find your local Herp club and see if they will take them in and give them the vet care and stuff they need. Or move the sick snakes into a different room, give them treatment and remember to take care of all your non sick snakes first, then the sick ones and be sure to wash your hands inbetween handlings and don't use the same utensils on the old snakes and your sick snakes. Best of luck.

Re: new bps show symptoms of an ri in 5 days of purchase

Unfortunately a fairly significant percentage of "whole collection" or "getting out of the hobby" sales are from people dumping their snakes because one ended up sick (or even died from the illness), the others have been exposed, and the seller wants to get whatever he can out of the collection before the snakes all end up sick and/or dying. Since they're leaving the hobby they don't care if they get a bad rep.

Now, I'm not saying this is the case with the OP's friend since these two snakes may simply be ill due to the stress from being moved several times recently. Even if the seller takes back the OP's snakes, if she continues to sell off the others then she's putting other people's collections at risk.

Re: new bps show symptoms of an ri in 5 days of purchase

I'm going through the same problem. I bought a snake in June and contacted the seller the same day it arrived saying the snake was sick asking to send it back for a refund and I would pay shipping. The seller just stopped responding to me. I've had the snake to the vet 3 times already with no signs of improvement. I hope you can get a refund or at least bring your animals back to health.
