    My current tank set up

So the tank is still a work in progress. I need to get a digital thermometer for more accurate temps and humidity as right now I just have the analog ones that came with the tank and my laser thermometer. I also want to get some plants to help fill in more space as well as cardboard up at least two sides.

The left side is the hot side, right side is the cool side. For some reason tonight she wants to be on the cool side even though it's pretty cool. I will have to get a second UTH for the cool side since my house gets really cold and I can't get it to get warmer than 73F there. Temps I verify with a digital laser thermometer. I also keep the lamp in the center generally and will be switching out to a 75W night bulb to get the ambient temp up as again, my house is freakin' cold most of the time and that is with the heat on. Space heater is not an option as we are not allowed to have them in the house. I'm also gonna foil half of the one screen as the humidity has been tough to keep up. I'm also picking up some sphagnum moss to turn the back log hide into a moist one for her.

So the tank itself has a sliding screen top. On top of that I have placed a second sturdier screen top since I have cats and they are never to be trusted to not jump on things they are not supposed to. The second screen should make it pretty hard for escaping as I have trouble popping it off because it's really snug, plus it prevents the first screen from being able to slide outward.

I do have a thermostat set up with the UTH on the left to control it. I just had to lay it behind the bookcase for the time being. Will have to get a second thermostat for the cool side too.

Do you need to have all 4 glass panels transparent? IME sometimes snakes will choose the quieter, less busy side of an enclosure despite temperature preferences. If she continues to choose the 73F side even after eating I'd consider that a red flag. Tape dark paper to the back and 2 sides leaving just the front completely transparent.

I don't need it open and am going to cover the sides tonight when I get home from work. I'm definitely worried she's on the cold side because it's cold and was down to 70 this morning. It's the side closest to the window and I don't think really has any more traffic than the other side. If anything the cold side is nearest the cat tree that the cat is always on. I checked the hot spot and it kept readingat 89F so I don't think it's too hot on the hot side.

I threw a blanket over that half this morning before I left and will now be worried she's gonna freeze all day until I can get back with the UTH for that side.

I have the same problem in my house, in winter it tends to be cold 68-70 degrees, so i went to petco and bought a twin lamp and n adjustable bracket that attaches to the backs of my tank, i use a white light for daytime and a red heat bulb for overnight and my tanks ambientnow stays at about 80 all the time. The bracket allows you to hang the lights above the tank and adjust the height of the lamps .
