    Reptile Basics Heat Tape Question

Hi there everyone. I have a quick question regarding some heat tape I purchased from Reptile basics. I am running 32" strip in a small tub set up. I had them go ahead and put the connectors and plug on. My only concern is that only one side is getting hot. If I temp gun one of brass lines it reads 93 degrees, but the other brass line is at 79 degrees. I am using a Jump Start thermostat. Is this normal? This is the first time I have ever used heat tape so I am not sure how it normally acts. I also went ahead and bought a Herpstat 2 to replace the Jump Start, in case that was the problem.

32 inches is the length BUT hat is the width. That is hat will let us know the wattage.
Also how long have you had it running?

Could be a thermostat problem. How long did you leave it running for?

Also are you setting up the tubs or do you actually have snakes in them currently?

It is 4" wide. It has been running since yesterday. When I checked the temps in the tubs this morning it was right at 89 degrees. Put the snakes in and when I got home I checked the temps and they were down.

The probe is dead center of the tape. I can snap pic when I get off.

Re: Reptile Basics Heat Tape Question

What temp does the thermostat probe read that's adhered in the center?

And the Jumpstart either delivers power or it doesn't. If one side gets hot but another part doesn't, then the issue is with the heat tape, not the thermostat.

    And yes, pics always help.

Center of the strip from side to side, or beginning to end?
