Vet check went great for stray snake
He, had him sexed, its a boy, seems to be in pretty good shape. no mouth rot, a little thin (he is 3' 10" and weighed 1187 grams) but not worrisomely so. He has some skin things going on, some of it is bad shed, some of it is damage that probably occurred on his outdoor adventure. He is also kind of grimy, I guess that's to be expected. would it be ok to use diluted dawn dish detergent? I figure crawling around inside car engines probably has him covered in some pretty gnarly stuff. The vet also sent home a spray to put on the damaged areas.

Not me, he freaked some old lady out and she called the cops. My supervisor wouldn't let me go get him (dispatcher) so they called a local pet store owner to pick him up. I then picked him up from the store owner the next day

Did you post anything local about finding him? I'm sure the owner would have to live right by the area he was found and would appreciate their pet back.

I did not, however, based on info I have, he was loose for at least two weeks with locals looking for the owner. I have been looking to see if any one posts, but there have been no posts in the past few months about a missing BP.

Usually I just use plain water to wash a snake, but my snakes don't get into motor oil/grease either. If water doesn't work, you can add a few drops of dawn to water then mix it and use that on a washrag, being careful not to get it on his head. Rinse well. Any scuffs and scratches will likely disappear with a shed or two.
If he had open wounds, keep him on clean paper towels or paper, and I would bathe in betadine type cleanser(diluted, and none on head, etc). Do not use any neosporin type ointment that has "pain relief" in it.

Thanks, I went ahead and used diluted dawn, figured if its safe for birds and kittens it would be ok to use on him! Ended up turning my white wash cloth a dark grey. yuck. Luckily he doesn't really have any open woulds, more just scrapes. I think he rather enjoyed the bath. I Tried to feed him, he was not interested. I figure it might take him a while to start eating but it was feeding day for my corn so I thought I'd give him a try too.

Unrelated, but I can't believe there are still people nowadays who call the cops after seeing a snake. Yeesh!

People call the cops for everything.
Actually, in our little town, the only to get in contact with animal control is to call the cops. They also seem to be the local LostAndFound center for valuable stuff around here. We had a HUGE wind storm a few weeks ago (it took the roof off the house across the street from us), and someone's ducks got loose. There were about eight in a tight group, but wandering around in the street aimlessly. I didn't know who they belonged to, and I couldn't get them into my yard, where they could have been penned up safely and comfortably, so I walked over to the police station and told the cops where they had bedded down, now that it was getting dark.
Maybe they thought I was crazy, but what else do you do?
