    Luna and Bonnie!

So after we (when I say we, I mean my lovely partner Bekah and I) adopted Clifford, it became very clear to me that I would never get to hold him unless I was the only one in the house, which is rare. Any attempt at handling was met with longing eyes from Bekah and hands reaching out to take him from me. It became clear to me that I would be needing to adopt my own boa if I were to have any big snake hugs.

Back we went to the house of the amazing lady Dawn who fosters somewhere upwards of 40 snakes for our local herp society. I had originally gone to get Bonnie, an adult female who I met when we got Clifford and I took a liking to. She is also very sweet, though less curious and more content to just cling to you and enjoys feeling supported. She is a beautiful caramel color and we were told that she is a hypo cyclone (though she doesn't fully match up the picture's I've seen of that) whose owner had to give her up due to a complication.

Well we got to talking with Dawn and I mentioned that I had been searching for a Hog Island boa and had almost got one from another rescue, but someone beat me to it. Into a back room we went and Dawn introduced me to Luna, an incredibly sweet Hog Island rescue who she had for about a year and loved quite a bit herself. Luna was also a "found wandering" snake, so we have no idea how old she is. She seems fairly small, but then again Hog Islands aren't supposed to get quite so big. She has a very curious personality and is very calm. I am truly in love with the interesting coloring of the Hog Islands and would suffice to say Luna is my dream boa.

We mulled it over and came to only one conclusion....we had to take both. Filled out the paperwork and home we went with Bonnie and Luna. When we got home, my roomie/best friend Seamus came out to see what we had come out with. Bonnie, who normally is kind of cage shy and for me had taken a bit of an effort to get out of her tub, came cruising right out of her tub and up Seamus' arm onto his neck, where she remained perched happily for the next hour in so as they fell in love. Suffice to say, she adopted him and he now has a new boa.

This works out great as Luna will be my boa and I am quite happy with her. Any input as to how old you think she may be would be appreciated. Snake-on-couch reference photo will be attached.

Bekah and I are absolutely amazed at how sweet and wonderful these rescue boas are and we encourage anyone looking for a first boa to try adopting. There are sadly tons of these snakes that are abandoned due to size or neglect (or possibly escaping, as we've learned they do not like to go back in their cages!). Personally, I find the adults much more interesting than the babies anyways.

    And now, onto the pictures!

First off, here's Seamus and Bonnie just after they met. With one smile, we knew he was in love:

And then, there's my new girl Luna:

Thanks for reading! Will post more pictures as they come. Bonnie is in shed, so we hope to see her real colors once she's done.
