Help! New BP, weird scratches
Hello! I got my first BP about a month ago and today I noticed these markings/scratches. What are they and is he/she going to be okay? She/he is only about 16" long.

What are you using as a heat source an how are you regulating it?

A heat lamp on one side and 2 thermometers on the hot and "cold" sides. Hot side is about 80° and cold is 75°

Temps are not hot enough.
The small spot looks like it could be either scale rot or a burn and the longer one looks like a burn.
Substrate?

Re: Help! New BP, weird scratches
How could I help the scale rot? He's about to shed so will that help it? And reptile carpet as substrate.

You cant really clean that carpet junk. VERY unsanitary.....
Paper towels will be your better bet.
Give him time to she and see if it get better.
I have never had the pleasures of dealing with scale rot first hand.

He'll be fine.
The small scratch, he might got it from a previous activity such where that scale was drag the wrong way, just like pulling it upwards against its row. The longer scratch is where the umbulicus used to be attached, I say. How old is he?

Get an under-tank heater AND A THERMOSTAT for the hot side, your temps should be 78-90*F.
