Humidity
Hello all had a question on what everyone uses to control humidity in there snake room. I know a lot of people use humidifier's obviously but what controls it to go on and off? I saw herpstat has a humidity prob do idk if people hook their humidifier up to that or idk if that's possible. Any help will be great thank you. TJ

Re: Humidity
I do exactly that. Living in the desert, humidity can be an opportunity. I have the Herpstat set to keep it above 55%, the humidifier holds 4 gallons, and if I let it run dry it'd take a couple of days to do that.
EDIT: I use ReptiZorb liners as my substrate, so I'm not getting any help there.

Re: Humidity
So you use herpstat 1 or basic for it? The humidifier plugs into back of herpstat? I was thinking of using reptichip heard it's really good. Also unsure how my snake room will be with humidity still under construction.

I just mist her tank once a day. Spikes from 50% to 60% then drops back down. During a shed I use moist sphagnum moss and really mist her bedding to keep it between 70% and 80%. Perfect sheds.

Yep. It's on a Herpstat 1 now, but I've had it on a 4 or a 2 as well in the past. The humidifier I have has a dial to regulate the humidity itself, so I just turn it all the way up so when the Herpstat tells it to kick on it does just that.
With the Reptichip, you may not need to worry about the room humidity at all.

Re: Humidity
I struggled with too low humidity but not aymore, I added a second small water dish along with more foil on the screen top. The humidity jumped instantly.

I struggled with humidity all the time, I even installed a humidifier set at 60% and that sucker was drinking more water than I could carry LOL. I've been using Reptichip for about a week now and have had very humid tubs all week long, cut my spot cleaning to virtually zero and there's no smell at all. I open my tubs just to look at my snakes and then close them, no work at all compared to lots of work before changing out paper towels and newspaper or messing with messy aspen which kept drying out. A single Reptichip block will hold about 5 gallons of water, and I use three blocks for 18 tubs (ARS-70 and ARS-80). With that much Reptichip in my rack it even brings up the ambient room humidity!
I plan on taking out the tubs once a week, moving the snake to a spare tub (good to get them out to see the room too) and spot cleaning and spraying down the substrate with a pump up sprayer full of warm water. Seems like that Reptichip stuff really soaks up the moisture, keeps it away from my snakes, and slowly releases it without being too damp. Some of my snakes would pace back and forth across the clear window in the tubs. Not anymore since they have Reptichip. And even some of my picky eaters seem like they are ready to grab a frozen thawed, maybe I can switch them from live. And my normal ball python loves that substrate so much he wants to jump out of the tub and grab a rat LOL. You should try a block and see how you like it, I think you'll be impressed. I plan on changing it out probably once a month or once every two months, we will see how it holds up...

Re: Humidity
Does anyone recommend putting a heat pad underneath a water dish to increase the humidity? (Thinking of putting the heat pad on the outside of the enclosure underneath the water dish)
I have problems with my ball python shedding in the winter months when the furnace is running causing the air to get really dry. I'm hoping to have this figured out before it starts getting cold.
I have a pretty nice enclosure that I thought would solve the problem last year but unfortunately it didn't. The enclosure I have is a Vision Cage.
I know I could spray the enclosure with water every day. However it always seemed to dry up in a few hours and the humidity would go back to down to being very low.
Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

Thank you Eric for your help once again I appreciate it. I should have my room done soon so I'll know soon if the reptichip is enough for humidity. Hopefully it is lol
