Vivarium electronics 300 and halogen light
can a vivarium electronics 300 be used for controlling a basking lamp that has a halogen bulb? I use one on my blue tongue skin's vision cage.

I got mixed answers on this when I called the different T-Stat Companies, some said no outright because it will kill the bulb, and others said "not really"...I thought I remembered a while back that Herpstat released a model that can now work with a bulb, but I don't remember hearing much more about it. What I ended up having to do was figure out what wattages I needed for different temps, after messing with it a little bit I have it dialed in for all my lizards and don't have to dim, or regulate the bulbs.

Re: Vivarium electronics 300 and halogen light
Contact Vivarium Electronics (.com) or Reptile Basics (.com) - The VE300 is pulse proportional and the RB website says not for use with incandescent bulbs. You may be better with the VE200D, which is a dimmer. I think halogen bulbs are considered incandescent, but they'll be able to help.

I don't think the bulb will last

I agree with Pit, when I was messing with my cages I put a bulb on a straight dimmer and didn't adjust it, even that killed the life of it. I have my blueys in Vision cages too, what model? What are the ambients in your room, knowing that I can probably point you in the right direction on bulbs that you wont have to worry about regulating.

So that is 18in tall correct? Does it have the dome light screen on it? I opted out of those on mine so I mounted a fixture inside the cage. I have some 322's so those are 21in tall. My fixture inside drops the bulb surface about 5 inches down. With that being said I use a 35W Par 30 Flood bulb in those cages and don't have to regulate, my ambients are close to yours, but drop at night...
