    Keeping heat down

I made a post about the heat in my room awhile ago. what would you guys think about me making pegboard lids to cover the screen and cutting a hole into the top of the pegboard for their heat lamps until i can get heat mats? Would that help cut down on heat?

It might work, but it is more likely you are creeping into the scope of a fire hazard.

Exactly, the lamp housings get HOT. I would put a lamp dimmer on the heat lamp if you need to reduce the output, they cost about $15.

What about putting automotive grade heat tape around the opening to reduce the risk of it heating up too much? I don't want to cause any risks but its probably around 83 in my room opposed to 77 in the rest of the house.

That may work but the issue is the ambient room temp. the temp in the tanks is fine, its just the heat seems to radiate to the rest of the room.

I would make the tops out of plexiglass, just drill a few ventilation holes. You'll still have to dial back the lamps since they will hold a lot of heat in the tanks.

Also when my herp room runs too hot, which usually happens when the A/C isn't running (I also have a small chest freezer for feeders and the incubator in that room, so it does get warm), I just set a fan in the doorway to pull cool air in from the hall.

Dimmers work like a charm, on heat pads too.
