    New from FL

Glad I found this forum !!! I just recently (5 days ago) purchased my first ball python. Not sure yet if it's a male or female. Also not sure the proper wording to use to describe his/her pattern/coloring. Also unsure of the age. Currently searching for a reliable and knowledgable vet or breeder in my local area to assist in helping me educate myself on these things as well as other things as well. Currently my BP has eaten one pinkie almost 3 days ago and I just realized last night that my BP is probably in shed as its eyes look very cloudy/bluish and is very milky looking on its belly and sides. Will try and add some pictures when it's not in its hide as I read here that I should refrain from bothering it unless absolutely needed. Hope to learn a lot from you guys and gals. Cheers 🐍👍🏻

    Congratulations!

If you don't have pictures yet, can you give a rough estimate as to how big/heavy/old the snake is? Did the previous owner/breeder recommend to feed pinkies?
As a general estimate, a feeder should be no wider (better yet a little smaller) than the snake is at its widest part, leaving a slight bump ― Pinkie sounds like it must be a very small one still haha~
And you're right in best not handling a snake that is in shed, they can't see well at that time and will likely get more defensive and nippy, so try to avoid that until they're through!

The care sheet is also very useful to check out, in case you haven't already!

How can I upload my pictures to this thread from my iPhone ? I'm using safari to browse the forums at the moment ! And I purchased ziggy from petsmart. They did not know age, sex, length or anything else other than they only had him long enough to try to feed him/her one time and he refused. The pinkie that he ate a few days ago probably wasn't big enough for him as it didn't leave much of a bump in his tummy at all. Either way I did not see the care sheet section until just now when logging back in. Going to give that section a thorough read this evening since rain has canceled my plans. Thanks for the input hope to get a lot more !!!! Never mind I just saw at the bottom of the advanced options that I am not allowed to post attachments 🤔😒

A tutorial on how to post pictures can be found here: http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showthread.php?t=173889
Alternatively, you can get the tapatalk app and connect to the forum with that, the app makes it really easy to post pictures!

It's not advised to buy reptiles from pet shops, because those animals have often (often, not always) been kept under poor conditions and are more prone to being ill when you buy them. But, too late for that now, and so be it! Though I would consider taking the animal to an exotic vet once everything else is sorted out, just to make sure that they are healthy!

If you manage, a few pictures (try not to handle too much bc of shed) would be great, perhaps a more experienced user than me can help you with proper feeder size and age appropriate advise...

Good looking Ball, and Welcome to the forum.
The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

    1.2 Coastal Carpet Pythons
    Mack The Knife, 2013
    Lizzy, 2010
    Etta, 2013
    1.1 Jungle Carpet Pythons

0.1 Normal Ball Python, Elvira, 2001
0.1 Olive (Aussie) Python, Olivia, 2017

Please excuse the spelling in my posts. Auto-Correct is my worst enema.

    New from FL

I didn't have a measuring device on hand but this should give a general idea as to how long ziggy is
