Tips for cleaning used cages?
I recently bought a used cage and it has 1 corner with a caked on urate that has been there for about a year. It seems that dish soap and water did not do much as most of it is still caked on after soaking. I plan to follow up with ammonia tomorrow. Any other ideas to help remove the caked on urate?

What kind of cage is it?
Water is the universal solvent. Given enough time it will work.

Vinegar is good for cutting through urine deposits. Ask a rabbit owner!

Take a knife and start scraping

This. Vinegar will dissolve whatever is left.

I use razor blades, the ones you can buy in a pack at the hardware store. So far (fingers crossed) I haven't found anything they can't take off of used cages.

Is it the boaphile you were talking about buying? What did you end up buying from him? Those were some pretty good deals!

Don't use an ammonia based cleaner, ammonia can cause some types of plastics to shrink and crack. I take off stuck on urates with an old butter knife.

Yeah, I got the 421T as well as both thermostats. He gave me some bowls as well.
