I havent been around alot lately, so i'm getting to post this now. Last Wednesday my 04 baby bp Sway passed away. She had not eaten in 5 weeks, and only once before that. We had been to the vet only the previous Friday and he said everything was ok except that she was dangerously underweight. I had tried pre-killed, f/t, and yes .. even a live mousie to get her to eat. She just didnt want to have anything to do with them. The Saturday after the vet, i tried opening her mouth and helping her eat. She wasnt having any of that, so i left her alone. I tried to let her feed on her own again last Tuesday. The mouse was definitely smaller than her girthiest point, and she hit it and ate it. I was very happy and hoped that we were on our way to recovery. Wednesday morning when i got up, i went to check on Sphinx and Sway ( still in quarantine ). I noticed a foul smell in the air and found that she had regurgitated the mouse. When i went to get her out of the tank, i discovered that she was dead. She was taken to the vet on Wednesday to have the necropsy done. I should get the results back tomorrow. This is something i should have had done when Homer ( my BCI ) died, but didnt. She was a great little girl and always loved to be held. She will be missed by me and the rest of my family.

Sphinx and Andy are doing fine and will be taken in for another check up later this week, just to be on the safe side reguardless of what the necropsy finds.

I'm so sorry, Carson. It's always difficult to lose a pet, and even worse when you have no idea what it could have been caused by. Such was the case with my sugars; when I lost them, I had no clue what was going on, and it happened just so fast. I was an assistant at my little boy Bixa's necropsy, and saw some of the damage firsthand. It was so frustrating to see what the sickness had done to his body when I had no clue what caused it (or what I could have done), but thankfully the exam helped lead us to the final toxicity conclusion. Hopefully your vet can find some information that can give you a better idea of what might have happened.
You did all you could have done to help her; most people wouldn't go so far as to have the nec. done and find out what happened. Best wishes and condolences to you and your family on your loss.

I'm glad you're taking Andy and Sphinx to the vet to get them checked out. It's awful what happened to Sway, but sometimes baby snakes seem to suffer from what is called "failure to thrive" in human babies, and there's just really not much of anything you could have done. I suspect that's the case here and that you did nothing wrong. I hate that you're having such a rough time lately.

Thanks guys. I seem to think that Sway was one of the ones not slated to make it. According to the vet, she was in perfect health and didnt exhibit any signs of something wrong except being very thin. I'll have to wait and see. I'm very interested in what the vet will have for me tomorrow. I'll let you guys know what it is.
