    Past her due date!

    Hey guys!
I have a proven female who I'm sure is gravid. The problem is her lay range has come and gone. I'm wondering how late your females have laid, and when to worry if they're eggbound. I'm still pretty new to breeding and I've never had this problem.

Last year I had one that went past 40 days and had two pre-lay sheds after ovulation. Talk about pulling my hair out. Until she goes past 45 days I wouldn't start to worry.

Okay great! Thanks a lot. I'm not worried yet, but I just wanted to know when worrying would be appropriate lol

Reminds me of when a woman is late for her period... lol

Good luck with your girl, hopefully she lays for you in the next couple days!

The problem with being egg bound is not about a date for example you can have a female that is 40 days POS that needs intervention because she is egg bound while a female can be at 50 days POS and be fine and lay her egg like any other females.

Keep in mind that 27 to 35 days POS is an average, not all females are textbook and it when it's really important for you to know your animals and what to expect.

How far is the first egg from the cloaca? How is she currently, perfect coil with tail in or out?

I had females go 50 days POS.

Last year she laid right on time so I thought this year would be similar. It seems to me like the first egg is pretty close to the cloaca. She's also coiled with her tail on the outside.

My girl laid on day 43 post ovulation shed. Caught me a bit by surprise, figured I had confused her ov for building. She surprised me last night!

Not to hijack this thread, but I have a female that is currently 46 days POS and hasn't laid yet. What exactly are you looking for when judging how far the first egg is from the cloaca and determining if they are egg bound? My female is laying in a perfect coil with the tail on the outside and has been doing so for at least a month. The first egg doesn't appear too close to the cloaca (maybe a couple inches away and she is ~1500 grams).
