Feeder Quality - Layne Labs
So I just received my rat shipment from big cheese rodents, and even though I ordered smalls (50-89 grams) they are all in the upper range (75-92g, 6 out of the 15 are 88 g). Mashadar is only 550g currently, and I know that he'll grow into the smalls and I was hoping for a much more even weight range...but I need to get a couple of rats that are in the 55-65 range to last a few weeks until he is bigger and can handle the +70g rats - they are a little wider than he is.
Layne Labratories is the only company that I can find that has rats in his range (their smalls are 40-69 g) and that I can buy less than 20 of them. Does anyone use them and are their rats good quality? If I get some that are less then 50 g that is fine, I'll just feed every 5 days instead of every 7, so that does not bother me.
*_* It sucks that buying 5-10 rats from them will cost the same as an order of 25 from big cheese, but I really need a few smaller feeders to get him through.

I use both and very happy with both. For the last few months, only been using Layne and the feeders are very good quality, sizing and clean.

He can take those smalls, you don't really need a size in between. But perfect prey.com has smaller quantities now too. So you can get a full pack of smalls and then like 5 weaned.

Re: Feeder Quality - Layne Labs
I appreciate all the feed-back.
bks- I'll look at perfectprey.com, I like the idea of being able to order fewer rats. I know that technically by the 10-15% body weight rule that he should be able to handle small rats, but only two of the 15 I just bought are below 75g and they are a little wider than he is. Thursday was feeding day and he ate a 51g rat and it made a slight bulge at his widest point - he's a slim boy, and I just don't want to risk feeding too large of a prey item width-wise and cause a regurgitation.
