Seems like you are complicated things really, if you are leaving for a week even two your snake can stay put where it is.

If you insist on taking him with you use a snake bag or pillow case for the trip and place the pillow case or snake bag in a small Styrofoam cooler (use newspaper so the bag does not move around the cooler)

For your setup get a tub, an ultraterm heat pad (they are sturdy and perfect for temporary/stand alone setup) and a RELIABLE thermostat.

Yes it will be stressful each time your snake will need time to re-adjust to his new environment and given the length of time of your trip your snake will start to settle down when it will be time to leave again and have to re-adjust once again.

    Re: Travel/set up

I will share with you what I do, I bought the good size Zip lock tubs for each snake I prepared. Them with air holes and an UTH size small and medium, next I put my preferred substrate in one hide and water bowl. I choose the zip lock brand because they have the seal and locking that I trust. These tubs are ready to rock and roll as I live in the trees and Forest Fires can and have been close I load up and I'm good to go. I think your baby would do just fine with this setup. All my UTH are controlled by a thermostat. I fix it so I have very little movement plug in my Thermostat to my converter that makes D.C. into A regular 110 plug-ins It does cut down on stress a bit. At your destination pick up your carrier and sit back and relax while the Baby is in his own way picking up the new scents in the air from his tub.The converter can be found at Radio Shack and Amazon.com. I would like to mention this when you put an UTH they need to breath I have 2 by 2 frames built to fit my car and this gives the heater the room it needs to function right. I hope this helps answer a few Question.

If I was only going for a week or two I would just leave them home. It's one of the major advantages of having snakes as pets. Just make sure their water dishes are deep/big enough to not evaporate in that time frame.

Do NOT toss a frozen thawed rat in with your most trusted feeding snake who *never* turned down a meal that you *always* used to just throw in the tub and walk away without issue without checking the next morning before you go that the rat is indeed eaten! Make double sure that dead rat isn't sitting on the warm side of the tub. Ahahahahahaha. Yeah...I did that. I came home five days later to a very disgusting mess. I was relieved to find it was just the dead rat though, when I step through the door to the scent of decay I thought it was one of my snakes.
