Question Brown stuff on corner of eye

I'll post pictures when I get back. I noticed Yukon has this brown clump on the back corner of both eyes, that almost looks like stuck food (but obviously not food, since food is rats). And I can't google any info about it.

Does anyone know what this is?

Pictures would help. My first thought would be snake mites, they can congregate around the edges of the eyes.

That would be my first thought, too. Alternately - is he a poocaso? Or any mucus type secretions in his tub? He could've rubbed and gotten it smeared into his eye.

Just offering alternatives, but once you post up a pic it'll be easier to identify. bcr is probably right, though. Has he been soaking? Also, check the cloaca. That is another spot they really like to cluster.

Oh gosh, I really really hope not.... It didn't look like mites to me- it's like a light brown clump, but I'll post the pics tonight.

He has not been soaking, and I'll check the cloaca too.

Maybe substrate then. Is he on cypress or cocoa-husk? Though neonate mites can be reddish-brown, the adults are black.

No, he's just on aspen, and it doesn't look like aspen either. Well, hope they're not just extremely young mites or something... hopefully just poop painting.

You can dampen a white paper towel with a spray of water, gently wipe his face, and see if you can figure out what it is.

Re: Brown stuff on corner of eye

Could it be he popped a scale off and that's a small scab? I may be off base, but Mon Cheri bit her rat so hard once that she lifted the edge of a scale right above her eye. There was a small amount of blood and the scale remained lifted at the edge until she shed twice.

Oh, hopefully... Well, I'm glad it's confirmed that it's not anything related to mites, at least!
