    Jynx Is Acting Odd

Okay, so I'm not worried exactly, but I would like some advice. First of all, it looks like Jynx has decided to fast for a second winter in a row, not a big deal he's 2300ish grams. What does have me a little concerned is that his hot spot is running a little on the hot side... I have sort of fixed it for now, and I am going to get a new heat pad and rheostat (will get a new thermostat when I get the money), to try to fix it in a day or two, but he seems like he does not want to go into his hide or really touch his substrate at all. He doesn't have any noticeable burns, everything looks normal, he is active like normal, and feels warm when I pick him up, but he seems more like he is basking than hiding like normal. I checked the temps with a temp gun and everything is reading normal, I'm just worried that he really doesn't like the cypress/coconut mixture for his substrate. He has always been a brat and been happier on coconut, but this seems weird to me. I don't know if I should change back, or just wait it out a couple of weeks after I change the heat pad situation to see if he'll reacclimate, I have had him on just cypress before, so this might just be his normal fit. It has only been 4 days since the swap.

I think I should just leave him alone to readjust and he's probably out of his hide because of what happened with everything on Saturday, because that is when the weird behavior started... Again, he doesn't really seem to be showing any signs of stress, no constant movement, still docile when I take him out, and no burns that I can find, so I'm a little at a loss. Sadie on the other hand has been completely unphased by the weekend drama and substrate change (she's been digging in the new bedding beneath her favorite hide).

u checked the temps with a temp gun and its reading normal. now that u got the hot spot temps down, he might make his way back to his hide. also didn't u also add plants to his tank? i'm sure he's just adjusting to his "new" surroundings.

Now as if to prove me wrong he is doing his nightly exploring inside his hide... I did contact a friend that told me he should be fine and just leave him alone to readjust and get over everything that has gone on over the last couple of days. Already feeling better.

He's usually pretty chill about changes to the tank, after sniffing around he went back to his hide (right after the change). Woke up this morning and he is in his hide again. I think he was still coming down from the stress of being bagged fast Saturday and having a bunch of strangers' scents in the house. plus the temperature thing. Haven't checked the temps this morning yet, but the couple of times I did yesterday and last night it seemed like my temporary fix has them adjusted. Though I'm still gonna switch out the UTH heating system to a new one on Thursday so I can run a couple of tests on the old one to make sure it didn't malfunction for my peace of mind.

    Re: Jynx Is Acting Odd

So I got his heating system switched and still working on stabilizing temps, my problem now is the prob for the rheostat is huge so it seems like the hot spot is having trouble getting to where it needs to be. When I checked it with the temp gun it was around 80ish so I removed some substrate and upped the temp on the pad. Hoping that will fix it...

With the Che the ambient in the tank is about 80, and 83 inside his hot hide (a half log). The top of the log itself is usually about 77, and he will lay on top of that sometimes.

He is fasting right now and his weight is holding steady so far (2349 grams as of today). Does anyone have any advice for my temps? I will check again in an hour or so once the pad heats up more, temps were steadily rising while I had Jynx out tonight.
