How long does it take to breed?
I just want to know the average of how long it takes to breed starting from the first lock witnessed right down to the clutch being laid? I know it is always different but just want to know the average... and maybe if you guys could, the length of each stage?

Re: How long does it take to breed?
Locks don't really mean anything as far as determining a timeline. BPs evolved to reproduce in an environment where they may not reliably find annual mates or have the right weather/food/water to support eggs. So they have the option to carry sperm for over a year and reabsorb follicles.
Your best bet for an idea of your timeline is to count from ovulation (and that's an estimate) and watch your females for signs - heat-seeking, pre-lay shed, signs of discomfort, and ridge-back to determine how close they are to laying. There are a few suggested breeding timeline pictures online, too.
I started pairing my breeders in November last year through February, and they laid eggs in May and June.

It takes as long as till the female is ready.
This can be 2 to 3 years or longer.
A lock doesn't mean anything other than the male is trying.

Depends on your female if she is ready or not. This year I started pairing in April, female laid in October, eggs hatched in december.

That is the million dollars question you can start pairing in november and have eggs in february just like you can start pairing in november and have egg in october.
What YOU need to do is know your animal, pay attention to the female's behavior and the signs that you will see along the way, the only REAL timeline is once a female ovulates, there is not timeline before that.
Usually ovy to prelay is about 14 days, pre-lay to egg laying is about 27 to 35 days it can be more this is an average.

Everyone already said it so I won't repeat.
I have a girl that just laid eggs 11 days ago and she's been locking since May. Another girl I have has been locking since February and she is just now bowl wrapping.
