Recessives

As much as I am frustrated with my collection most of the year, if its not one thing then its another.
I get reminded of how much I love this hobby when the little heads start pipping.
Dom and Co-Dom combos are cool but there is just something about recessives that seems to make it more worth while to me.
One of my first was a het X het and when I got a couple Albinos out of that clutch, its just WoW.
Now I have another project in the cooker. VPI Axanthic X One of those Albinos and she gave me 5 eggs. As long as they are not all females or males we will be making some Snows in a couple years.
Its just something about having two normal looking snakes make something that looks nothing like them.

I guess there is a question in this ramble.....
Are there any breeders that ONLY breed recessives?

I agree with the awesomeness of recessives. My two project lines are Ultramel and Pieds and my entire collection is focused on one or the other. This year, I will be producing poss hets but I think next year, every single hatchling will either be 100% het or homozygous recessive.

My preference is to add codoms over a recessive base. I'll have a reasonable shot at super pastel pieds and pastel ultramels this year. I started these projects about 5 years ago and it's been a long, patient ride that's finally almost there.

This times 1000! I've been watching various reptile species' heads pip for close to two decades now and every time is just as incredible as the very first. I became highly allergic to dubia and have to glove up and wear a respirator to get them out to feed dragons. Also not a big fan of caring for the rats for my bps. It all becomes worth it many times over once the first female of the season becomes gravid, let alone hatching day.

I am on the same page, my MAIN focus is recessives, but I have my BEL complex, YB complex, and Fire complex stuff. I just tend to have a softer spot for the Recessives, it's really hard to beat a Clown, Pied, Albino, etc.

I'm just getting into them myself. Way back in the day when I was a hobby breeder, Albinos were the big thing. Now there are so many. The two that I am started to work with are Pied and Hypo. I've been pairing a Pied with my Super Black Pastel and my Humble Bee will be here this weekend. Not really sure what I am going to do with her yet...but something.

My buisness name is going to be recessive obsessive exotics. While not exclusive, the majority of my animals are either visual or het for one thing or another. My first clutch was snow x dh, and the next albino cinnamon x pastel. Albino and pied are what got me into ball pythons.

I'm a fan of recessives for the same reasons, just a hoot to hatch - especially once you start going for the long odds on double and triple hets. I'll eventually probably go for something stupid like a lavender snow pied with possible combinations of enchi od yb fly ghi mojave. The trick is getting there with just my 10 slot ball python rack.

Recessive is what got me in this Pied to be exact, it all started with a pair of hets back in 06 and the feeling of being able to produce my first pieds was amazing.

Since than I have been working on a few combos which includes double recessives, it's not instant gratification but so rewarding.

I am slowly moving toward a recessive only collection.

I love recessives! It keeps me passionate about my projects, knowing that I have long term goals. I want to add hypo to everything, but also work with pied, clown, albino, axanthic and ultramel.

We have a lot of double recessive projects that we are just getting started with, too!

For me, the Honey Bee and Axanthic Spider were the two that caught my eye.
I'm not much on Pied but Clowns are soon to be in my collection.

As my collection evolves, I've definitely been focusing more on recessive genes. If all goes well, next year I'll be pairing a candy to a pied 66% pos het albino. From there I'm looking to bring in axanthic for lightning pieds and candy snows (candisnos?). I've got some co-dominant genes that I'm playing with, but now I'm itching to add hypo to them...
