Felipe is 11 yrs old, male BP who has been living with me for 1.5 years. For the last 8 weeks he has only eaten one small mouse where he usually eats 1 med to large rat every 10 days.I offer him food every week, but he doesn't touch it. He is consonantly roaming his 30 gallon room. He has a cool and warm hide, large water, fake plant and fake tree trunk. He was a warmer "thing" under his warm hide which reads 99 (it was 114 but I turned it down to see if that was the problem) The rest of his room is approximately 75 to 80 degrees. He has a ceramic top heater "thing" as its is getting cooler where I live. I put that in a week ago after the pet store thought he might be cold. I have sprayed his room for humidity. He was always lived in this room with these items as I got them from his first keeper.
He has been roaming constantly of late.. He comes out in the day to lay on the rock, in the evening he is cruising around testing the lid and exploring. I have taken him out for a walk-a-bout. This is new behavior for him and I don't know what to address. Last winter he went into his cool hide and didn't come out for 8 weeks, nor did he eat; then he shed, came out ate and all was good. Right before this new behavior started, he shed in his warm hide and refused a rat. A week or so later he ate a small 'mouse' and has not eaten since. Yes, he poo'd after the mouse. I can't find information on why he is roaming so much and not eating besides stress or too being too hot.
Any information and suggestions welcomed. (He has always been fed in his room. He has never stuck or bitten me. He is a very docile guy. He has grown in girth since I had him and is under 4 feet long.)
I have never had a snake before but in the last 1 and a half we have learned much and I think he has been a happy guy.
Thanks,
Scatt
