Not sure what's up with my ball python
Howdy,
Lately I've been a little concerned and a bit confused about what's up with my bp.
To start off, a bit of background info about the snake: she eats with no issues; never misses a meal. I provide fresh water for her every day and her temps are proper at 90F on the warm end & 75-80F on the cool end. She's aproximatley a year old..maybe a little younger and she's 460g.
But the past week, I've noticed that she's become sort of weak and can't do a full coil. She'll just lay in a weird O shape with half of her lower body being limp. She also seems scared and will jerk her head back really fast to even the smallest movents if I move my hand or pick her up. I've heard of stuff like body inclusion disease..which sounds horrid..and some of the things she's showing seem to resemble that disease. Is she okay? Any ideas of what's wrong?
Thanks.

I don't yet have a ball python, but it sounds like she needs to get to a reptile vet ASAP.

That could be a lot of things, but if she's that weak or unable to move her lower body you need to go to a vet ASAP. Can she wrap around your arm when you pick her up, or is the lower end just not working right no matter what the situation?
Also, if you're worried about Body Inclusion Disease, I'd strongly suggest going full on quarantine until you can rule it out. Separate room, separate equipment, all that. I don't have personal experience with that disease but it's something I'd want to take the absolute highest level of caution with.

Maybe you could handle her in a way that would cause her to wrap her lower end around your arm or hand. A way of really testing if her lower half is 'limp' or how much strength has actually been lost. When was the last time she shed?

Well, I did that test thing with the lower body and she isn't completely limp, but just a little weaker and really like...soft bodied.. If y'all understand that. My other bp is very full and firm unlike the one I'm concerned about. And she shed about mid September last

Re: Not sure what's up with my ball python
If possible I would recommend you quarantine her as some other members have advised. Body inclusion disease is pretty unlikely I think but it’s better to be safe than sorry so keep looking out for more symptoms. Continue to test her strength every few days. A trip to the vet would be the best thing but you may find the animal is just behaving a little strange because a shed is coming soon.
