    Using the Dishwasher

I have had a large amount of keepers tell me to 'wash my bowls/tongs/etc' in the dishwasher. I have a cycle called 'sanitize', but it does sound weird. I wouldn't run them with regular dishes, but I was curious to see if anyone does this and if it's convenient!

I use the sanitize option on all of my dishes including the snake stuff. The only thing I don't bother with for their stuff is the "heated dry" option because it just makes things take longer and I'm impatient .

Nope, you're not weird. I even wash my baby tubs in the dishwasher since they're small enough. It saves me the trouble of washing them all by hand and I like being able to sanitize them. I use the pod-type of dish washing soap though since the powder seems to leave behind some residue. If you use the powder just check and make sure there isn't anything left behind and if there is, I would probably rinse it well just to make sure it doesn't cause any issues for your snakes.

I have been told by nutritionists that dishwasher detergent residue is toxic even to humans.
That may be why the dish washer is not recommended for the snake's water bowl?
I used to work dish washing in a cafeteria. The machine we used did leave a yucky residue.

I run everything - water bowls, plastic hides and cage decor, even small tubs - through the dishwasher on the sanitize cycle. I also use the heated dry option.

I actually picked up a used dishwasher just for this. I just put in a pod, put it on heavy duty wash, and let it do its thing. I did get a steal on it used, its even set up to be movable. I like being able to sanitize their water dishes every so often.
Where are we going, and why am I in this handbasket?

Never argue with idiots. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with their experience.
