    Exclamation Bleeding after pooping

I have a female ball python, about 5 months old, maybe a bit older, and she's about two feet, a little less. I got her about a month ago, and she's eaten twice. I feed her large frozen mice, recommended by the store I got her from. Her first feeding she went through just fine, there were no issues with her pooping asides from the fact that she just had to poop on me and not in her cage. -_-

I fed her last week, a large frozen mouse. She didn't poop until today when I was holding her, and it passes through fine and there was no blood. She was put back in her cage while I cleaned up and when I came back she was pooping again, and this time in was large segments. The last one that passes, I noticed blood. At first I thought her stool had blood in it but it was the actual hole. I searched up on it and people were mentioning infections and too large of prey and that the snake should be taken to a vet ASAP. But I also read that it could be the snake pushing too hard. She seemed to have no trouble passing it, it looked as normal as any other time, but maybe it was just because those chunks were so large and she pushed a bit too hard?

She's shedding atm and I was wondering if that could stress her out and make her push a bit too hard, especially since I was handling her before. I know you're supposed to leave a snake along when they're shedding but she's young and I don't want her to grow up into a mean snake.

What do you guys think? You're more skilled at this than me. Should I take her to the vet or wait to see how she handles it next time?

How much blood are we talking about? Is she actively shedding? A small amount of blood is normal during shedding and should go away fairly quickly.

Exactly. If it was a rather large amount of blood then it is vet time.

I would keep an eye on her and maybe switch her over to paper towels to monitor the bleeding. Try to give her smaller prey as well until such time that you are not seeing any blood. Does she have any other signs or symptoms that seem abnormal?
Stay in peace and not pieces.

    Re: Bleeding after pooping

I've had this happen to a 6 month old female bp after the petstore employee told me to feed her adult mice. And while at her size a normal ball her size should've been able to eat one without a problem, the other employees informed me that they were still feeding her baby mice after she bled when I fed her an adult. At this point I was pretty concerned but the vet said she looked just fine. This was in February. I've just now gotten her to accept an adult mouse after months of feeding her hoppers and adjusting her meals accordingly to make sure she was gaining enough weight to be healthy.

It could be that your baby is straining their cloaca (the vent) after eating a large meal. It could also be that she chipped a spur and now it's bleeding. Good luck and best wishes, I hope you can get the issue resolved.

is this the same BP that has bloody missing scales from your other thread? this one - http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...ales-should-be

if so, there seems to be a few things wrong with your snake. if it were me, i would take it to a vet if the issues remain post-shed.
