    Question on BRB

I have two hides a large water dish in Omar's tank he doesn't seem to want to look around the tank at all is that ok? Omar just recently had one BM after 3 feeding I had to soak him in warm water for awhile why does this happen an will it happen again very worried? He looked like he was going into full shed then it went away it wasn't until I soaked him in warm water that it came of an he had his BM finally, is him aborting his shed ok? And I have the humidity at 80% temp from 75 to 80 in the tank. I stepped up my husbandry skills but still feel as if I'm falling short. He really scared me with the No BM for the 3 weeks though after the feelings.

    Your pics are not visible.

They go when they want/need to go. My Bloods at times have gone months without a movement.

It is also very common for snakes to have a movement after a shed.

The shed process should start with a red belly and then go from a dull haze(blue) skin to clear, and then a few days after it goes clear you should have a shed. If it fails to shed after a few days something is wrong and humidity may not be where you believe it to be.

If you are using an el cheapo gauge hygrometer it is very possible it is wrong. BRB will usually make very good use of having a water bowl in their cage large enough to soak in. Mine loves to soak in his large bowl and has perfect sheds.

    Re: Question on BRB

I thought I posted a picture of him befor an after but it took about a week so it's stressing me out never had a snake that took this much work. What type of thermometer or hydrometer do you use an what is your tank set up like. I don't care what it costs I want it perfect from him. An I ever see him in his water dish he just stays in the warm end of the cage or the cool end of the cage in the hide I don't know how to set it up so he explores.

    I have a large PVC cage for mine. 4ft x 2ft x 18in
I like to keep my snakes on a mixture of mulch with plants but my BRB is very destructive and was demoted to newspaper with a hide and large water bowl.

For monitoring some of my cages including my BRB I am using a wireless weather station that has three satellite monitors.

They don't have the one with 3 sensors that I have but this is it with 2.

Baby BRB's need 90% or higher humidity for the first year. This is almost impossible to achieve in a tank - unless you've made a plexiglass top for it?

Also how are you providing heat? Overhead sources such as a lamp or CHE will also dry out a tank quickly.

maybe provide a humid hide with some moss in it? and a bowl large enough to soak.. I'd also make sure the snake has something rough enough to rub on during shed (like a rock or branch).

KMG- I LOVE that remote thermometer you linked to... That is a great idea. I have thermometers / hygrometer units in all my cages and get so tired of the display getting peed / pooped on... That looks like a perfect solution. Do these have a probe so you can get a cool / warm side temp and humidity in one reading?

No probe. Each gives one temp and humidity reading. I monitor my hot spot with a temp gun so it works for me. I used velcro to stick them on the side instead or screwing the included mount to the cage wall. Each unit also has a display so you can see the reading while in the cage as well. I have had my unit for several years and it has worked great and the batteries last a long time. I can't count the number of the recommended probed Accurite unit I have had and they have all given me less than a year of service.

It's also nice to be able to check your cage numbers from anywhere in the house on the main unit.

If you get some make sure to check the readings as the unit may need to be calibrated.
