    Worst Bites

I used to work for a Ball Python breeder and have been told about some gnarly bites they've encountered. I was wondering what was your worst bite you've ever had from a snake and what kind of snake was it? :-)

Emerald Tree Boa. From what I understand they have the longest teeth of any nonvenomous snake. She tore me open pretty well when I got tagged.

The only snake that's ever bitten me is my BRB. She got my hand on accident during a feeding strike by completely passing the tongs and rat. The bite itself wasn't much, as she let go pretty quickly, but it turns out I'm allergic to snake saliva…my hand puffed up pretty bad. Haha.

    Re: Worst Bites

Have only had my two recently and have not been bitten yet. I honestly don't think I will get bitten anytime soon, with how chill they are. Blackout is easily startled, but not at all forward about her fears... she just instantly curls up into a ball.

Woah! That's quite a coincidental thing to be allergic to, being in the hobby. Not that it's stopping anyone... ahah

My carpets give pretty powerful bites. Without even hanging on and gnawing, just a little love tap, I'll get a nifty bruise to go along with the teeth marks. Probably some of my gnarliest looking bites were from these guys even if completely superficial.

When I kept king snakes the most annoying bites where when one would latch onto a finger and immediately start swallowing - goofballs.

I have some pits that come flying out during feeding that occasional bypass their rodent and latch onto me instead. Wiggling the rat next to their head is usually enough to get an immediate release and send them on their merry way.

I had a notaeus growing up that I handled religiously to tame down. Even so, just about once a year, he'd slash me - simply to watch me bleed I always said. No hanging on or anything and unless I was watching while it happened I wouldn't even know I was bit until I felt a bit of blood trickling. I imagine a bite with feeding intent would not have been fun from this guy.

I'm not looking forward to the day my melanocephalus manages to latch onto me during feeding; she's a psycho when I open her enclosure. I have to watch while handling too because everything is food and she's always hungry. As soon as her head is within a couple inches of me that mouth is open and she's coming for a taste. It's a fun game we play but a bite with the intent to eat what is bitten is almost always worse than a defensive strike/release so I just avoid her head like it's the plague.

    Re: Worst Bites

A bite from a 15 feet retic from a friend. He ensured me the snake bever bit someone... Until it was attached to my elbow. I needed quite a few stitches.. Still love that snake so much, they are such awesome animals. I just never handled them before that day, lesson learned haha

The ironic thing is that I started keeping snakes because I'm also allergic to dogs, cats, and pretty much anything with fur. But you are correct that it's not stopping anyone…although I'm pretty close to getting myself a plastic bubble to live in.
