Surprise: Snakes don't kill by suffocation (new article/study)
A new study has validated the 20-year old theory that cardiac arrest, rather than suffocation, is the actual cause of death for the prey of constrictors.

My often poor deductive reasoning tells me that the size of the item being squeezed will depend on whether it is cardiac arrest or asphyxiation. A tight squeeze on a small prey will keep the heart from pumping where it needs to. Something too big to prevent cardiac arrest but the snake can prevent the lungs from working....?
