since ive had my baby bp, little over 2 weeks, i've only seen him use his hot side hide once. he lounges around the hot side frequently, wedged somewhere or balled up, but always out in the open. is this ok? I hoping its not stressing him out, but i don't know why he only uses his cool side hide.

What do you have the hot hide set at? Perhaps try lowering it a few degrees?

My male BP is almost invariably in the middle hide of the enclosure, so I presume those are the temperatures he prefers most. However, he does use the hot hide occasionally after a meal, or to defecate. I've only seen him use the cool hide once in two months.

My female BP on the other hand was mostly in the cool hide the first few days, and has mostly been in the warm hide since she ate. However, she switches between them enough that whenever I try to check the hide that she won't be under so I can tell without disturbing her, she's often actually there.

As hhw said, what are your temps like? What are you using for a hot side hide? How bout substrate? Humidity? It could be that the hide doesnt provide enough security or it is too hot under it.

Sophie prefers the cooler side hide. I've even switched hides to see if maybe it's the hide she prefers, but it's the temp, she just likes it cooler I guess...very occasionally I'll see her on the warm side and that's usually only for a couple of hours.

My first post and my first snake!

i have newspaper down, the hot side ranges from 91-88 and his hide on that side is a rectangular black plastic container with a hole cut in it. before that though it was a hollowed out log. he hasnt used either one. I switched because the plastic container was more private. the thing is he's lounging about on the ground right in front of the hide so the temp should be pretty much the same in or out. he's just not hiding, which i'm hoping isn't stressing him out.
