Feeding
So I am going to feed my BP tonight for the first time. I know about feeding them in a separate tank, and they shouldnt be handled for 24 hours after eating, but what about before? Should they not be handled at all the day they are fed, or is just in the hours before they eat? just a general question for my knowledge. i havent handled him at all today and dont exactly intend to until its time to feed him, i'm just asking questions as they come to mind.
Also, the pet store was feeding him 2x a week, but everyone i asked and everything ive read says they should only eat once a week. so i skipped the next scheduled feeding from the pet store. So i'm wondering, do they have a particular behavior they exhibit when they are hungry? How do you know when to increase their portions? would you increase the number of mice you feed or increase the size? Osiris is about 15 inches and i am feeding him 1 small fuzzy because thats what the pet store fed him.

Re: Feeding
There is no real need to feed in separate tub it can lead to added stress and food refusals. 15 inch didn't tell me to specific his size but generally yearnings get feed every 5 day untill 500g then gö to weekly after that.. I like my snakes on rats asap because it's easier when they are larger.. Prey item should be slightly larger there thickest part of there body.

Re: Feeding
My ball is about two (rescued, sort of, from my son so not entirely sure how old she is - about three feet long and nice and round!) and I feed her a small rat every eight days or so, depending on how she is taking the meal. This week she wouldn't eat on Monday as something freaked her and so I fed her last night (ten days since last feeding) which she didn't touch until overnight sometime. I should have her take lessons on feeding from my boa. I feed the boa an adult mouse every six days and hope to move her up to small rats after next shed. I also feed both in their enclosure. I have a mat that the F/T rodent is placed on but I don't think that it makes much difference as hides are moved all over the place like a big fight took place and I'm sure some substrate must get consumed!

Re: Feeding
so how long can the mice be left in the enclosure if the snake doesn't take to it right away? wouldn't it go bad?

You can feed in a separate enclosure if you wish, though practically everyone on this site hates the very idea. I feed my babies in a seperate tub, and they know to expect food in there so they take it immediately. Then again, I feed my snakes live because they are picky eaters. You should do what works best for you and your snake though.

Re: Feeding
I used to feed mine in separate containers as it gave me time to spot clean and change water but now I just feed in their tubs, I never had any refusals unless they were on a fast. When the prey is warmed up, I dip the heads of the rodents in hot water, obvs with live you don't need to do that tho.
All mine are fed on a 7 day schedule regardless of weight
0.1 Spotnose, 0.1 Fire 0.1 het pied, 1.0 het pied, 1.0 Lesser, 1.0 Pastel, 1.0 Normal

Re: Feeding
Feeding a fuzy mouse once a week is not enough, the prey is way too small.
An hatchling right out of the egg is generally started on hopper and quickly move to adults in a matter of weeks.
You need to feed a prey that is equal your snake girth size.
Avoid handling prior to feeding, doing so can stress the animal leading to a refudal, but can also lead to bites as snakes with a strong routine know when feeding day is and can be on feeding mode hours prior and after feeding.
As for the prey if live remove after 15/20 min if uneaten, if F/T it can be left overnight and disposed of in the AM
You can feed once or twice a week it depends on the animal, once a week is just fine so long you offer the right si zee prey.
