Looking for help.
Hey Name is Sythes.
I have got a 3 yr female BP. 2 weeks ago from a private party the gave me a 40 gal glass tank
a zilla heating pad, heat lamp, and a hide.
I have been tweaking the tanks temp and humidity.
I eco earth coconut lose bedding mixed with some aspen bedding. I have moss that i wet to keep humidity up. stays around 40 to 60%
I am concerned about the heating pad i have a digital thermometer with probe where the heating pad is and reading at 96.4 at this moment. Is that to high or what should i do because i don't want to burn the belly.
The lighting is my other concern I have read and read and read what not to use what to use and just cant get a real answer . I have been switching bulbs from a day time basking bulb 60W to a nighttime incandescent bulb 60w at night. Could i just use the nighttime bulb 24/7 instead of changing or should i just continue.
I do have a screen top I have half of it saran wrapped on the back side of the screen because it open that has the fold in the middle. to help with humidity.
Can i need help making sure. I doing everything right to keep her healthy and happy. She is eating frozen small rats just fine and is shedding in one whole piece.
Thank you

Okay, since you've got heat lamps I'd say unplug the heat pad until you can get a thermostat to regulate it. There are several brands on the market; I use hydrofarm. These will regulate the temp of the UTH and keep it from getting too hot.
Once you've got that hammered out, BPs don't need any specific type of light (like UVB or anything). Natural light that's in the room should be plenty if you want to just use the red bulb all the time.

I use a thermostat with my heating pad, (under tank heater) and it's set to 90. Lorraine's warm hide is directly over the pad, so she can stay toasty warm. her cool hide stays around 80, and ambient ranges between 78-80. We don't use any heat lights or anything else, and she seems to be happy, eats well, ect. As far as lighting, I have LED strip lights that are for fishtanks. The LED's don't put out any heat, so they don't interfere with the temps or humidity. There is also a night time viewing mode, which we use as a night light in the bedroom. Your humidity seems fine, the only time humidity needs to be at 70% is during shedding. For shedding, I put a CLEAN sponge, soaked with water in the tank to raise the humidity to 70% which keeps the humidity up without wetting down the whole tank. The water evaporates slowly, rather than spiking really high, then dropping to low the way spritzing down the tank can do. Once I started using the sponge trick, Lorraine started giving me perfect sheds. Come to think of it, the sponge thing was a tip I found here on the forums.
Hope this helps.

Wet sphagnum moss works about the same as the sponge trick if you prefer the natural look. Both should work fine I guess, never tried a sponge. I just use the moss because I have a ton of different types of bedding lying around.
