T-stat probe placement advice?

Yesterday I ordered a new T-8 from animal plastics with a RHP from pro products installed. I also ordered a new herpstat1 to run the RHP. My thinking was to run the probe about an inch or two off the bottom on the SIDE of the cage that the RHP is on. That way I'm controlling the temp on the warm side of his cage. Does this sound about right or any other suggestions/thoughts? Substrate will be an inch or two of Cyprus mulch if that makes any difference.

I never used RHP b4 , I use heat tape so I'm not sure. With heat tape the probe for the tstat goes on the tape but you have to be careful to not cover the probe sensor itself with the tape. Tape should go over the probe wire only. So just make sure you don't cover the probe sensor itself. Good luck. I hear the RHP's are nice and effective!

It's perfectly fine to tape the probe directly to the heat tape. I don't know who told you this nonsense that it's a bad thing.

As for the RHP. My thermostat probe is placed about an inch below the RHP and secured so that the Snake cannot move it. It's a little more tricky than a uth but once you get it dialed in you generally don't need to touch it.

Its ok to tape the probe wire to the heat tape just don't cover the sensor itself. If you do cover the sensor with tape its going to throw off the readings to the thermostat. That is not nonsense that is a fact! If you cover the sensor , the sensor won't interpret the heat coming off the RHP or the heat tape correctly.

I and many others have been doing so for a long time with no issues. The probe is in direct contact with the heating element so it actually gives a more precise reading.

I'm not saying wrap the thermostat probe with tape. One strip of tape directly across the probe on top of the heat tape is sufficient. No interference whatsoever.

Tape is ran through a herpstat 1 and the RHP is going to an Original Herpstat.
Stable temps using both methods.

I personally have my probe hanging all the way at the bottom so my RHP can keep ambient temps up. Plus i know exactly the temp of where my BPs hang out.

I use a cable strap and super glue it to the rim of the rhp. I then glue the probe into the strap.

My snakes have crawled through the wire without any failure. I have used this method for years.
