    Growth rate of brooks kingsnake

Hi I have a male brooks kingsnake that's almost a year old and is about 33 to 36 inches long and 368 grams and I was wondering if that's common or not I bought him from a pets tore at a month old and what's a good size I should breed him if I do

Not sure, but 368g seems to be pretty large for a kingsnake snake that's not even a year old yet? I don't think pet stores are terribly reliable in telling you what a snake's actual age is. Hatchlings are 9-13 inches in length, and I can't quite get my head around one growing to to 3 feet in just 1 year.

I'm not sure about when he'll be ready to breed. He's larger than my kings were at 1. My kings were 250g and 220g when they turned 1. They're a little over two now and they're 725g & 645g each. How much and how often are you feeding him?

Re: Growth rate of brooks kingsnake

I have been feeding him a small rat every 5 or so days I wait until he poops but when I got him the pet store was feeding him 5 pinkies a week but I switched him to adult mice then about a month or two later rat weanlings and he just sorta rapidly growing but now takes small rats down no problem he almost looks like he would take 2 but I know that would be way to much for him

He wasn't too big when I got him maybe a foot and I saw some lavender albino kings at the last show I went to and they were like 6 inches long super small and skinny is that bad? Because I had almost bought one but if their supposed to be 9 to 13

I had fed him yesterday his small rat so he weighed in at 410 grams but once he digests it he will be back down

Re: Growth rate of brooks kingsnake

I'm curious about the apparently disparate growth rates of these Kings, if the reported ages are accurate...

In looking at Firemaniv's growth record of his Brooks King "Pyro," I'm seeing a pattern that more closely approximates my Speckled King, who is supposed to be turning 1 year as of this month.

Pyro was a hatchling in 2013 (exact birthdate unknown ?)...his first reported weight was 59g on 8-12-14 (that includes the weight of a plastic tub that contains him on the scale (as do the subsequent photos - but maybe firemaniv zeroed the scale weight before putting the snake in the tub?)

    9-21-14 : 82g

    10-30-14 : 106g

1-12-15: 203g (obviously over a year old at this point?)

    3-9-15: 236g

    5-11-15: 290g

    5-25-15: 339g

This lines up pretty closely with what I'm seeing. The last weight I took showed my Speckled King to be at 70g (excluding the container weight).

I'll be keeping a record as well of my Speckled in the "Then there were two" thread

I also zero the scale after I put the bucket on so I can have the most accurate weight
