Need help with heat panel
So I just built a 4x2x2 for my female boa for when she outgrows her 20 gallon and I don't know what size heat panel to use. Helix or ReptileBasics brand. Im stuck between the 53 watt 11"x16" or a 22"x12" or the 12"x12" She's got a couple months before she'll need that enclosure but i just want to be all set for her

Re: Need help with heat panel
You could try giving them a call and asking...generally there are a few factors that go into which size panel to get, ambients of the room it's in, distance from basking spot, temp you want to achieve etc. From my experience the 12x12 in my 3x2x2 didn't produce nearly enough heat to create a hot spot.

The guys at Reptile Basics are awesome to work with - I wouldn't hesitate at all to reach out to them if I were in your shoes.

I'm going to be in the same boat here soon. I am totally ignorant about RHP's.
Why not lean to towards the larger one since you're going to have a thermostat?
Or is there a considerable cost difference?
(I'm one of those Make it Bigger and Beefer kind of guys)
The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

I agree!!
Go with the bigger. I went with what was recommended and its on more than off. Mine barely reached adequate temps. If my house cools much it doesn't keep up very well. I will be changing to one size larger. 4 x 2 x 2 enclosure with an 80 watt. I will be upgrading to a 120 watt before winter time. I'm ok for summer.

I have always used Pro-Products RHP's. No matter who you go with, they should ask you about your room temps and cage size to assist you with the size of the panel.
