Retics and children

So I know this probably depends on the animal itself but does anyone go to schools and do educational things with retics. If the ban gets lifted I will be looking at getting one for educational purposes while I can.

Does anyone in general or anyone specifically on here? I'm sure plenty of people do, I know Brian from SnakeBytes does so there's bound to be others that do.

I know Brian uses burms when he goes to schools but are retics just generally a bad idea?

It's really about the individual snake. I've personally used BCC, BCI, Eunectes and Apodora for larger snakes in school presentations. The important thing to remember is, no matter how much you trust the snake, always be the one handling the business end. The last thing anybody needs is a school child getting tagged and all the blowback that would entail.

A couple my wife and I use in our education talks with the kids. It's all about attitude and how you can use and handle the snake. If a snakes having a bad day it doesn't join us. If it's in shed it doesn't join us. If it was just fed it doesn't join us. If it's biting at the glass it doesn't join us. Etc.

Just an update if anyone was wondering on this subject too. I called Jay Brewer at prehistoric pets and talked to him about this. He said the reason burms are used more is because if you tire them out they don't care and won't have an attitude as compaired to a retic will become more aggressive. He said he uses both and only retics when an experienced keeper that can read them is around..
