What does it mean?
hey everyone,
I have 10 Ball Pythons and today i decided to move my Normal ph hypo female to a bigger tub.
so i made the bigger tub ready and wanted to take her out of the smaller tun she was in, but when i opened the smaller tub and came just a little closer to her with my hand she started to wag her tail.
what does that mean? I know she isn't doing it cause she is happy to see me
but why did she do it? is it to threat me? is it something they do when they feel threatened? I am assuming it isnt what some snakes do to lure prey closer to them, as far as i know bp dont do that but then i have never seen any of my bp's wag their tail.

Tail wagging is also associated with breeding - it's pretty hilarious when the girls really get going. How big is she? Were you handling your males before moving her around?

I've seen a youtube video of a ball python doing exactly that before a defensive strike. Could be the change up in environment has her stressed and then you came in too hot and fast and she wasn't happy about either.

she is only 500 grams so she shouldn't even be thinking about breeding

It's associated with feisty behavior and expressing scent glands. Most common for breeding where they are scenting for a mate. They also do it sometimes when feeding aggressively or when they are threatened. Basically any situation where hormones start surging. Males and females both do it. If my snakes wag at me I do not try to pick them up lol.

Haha, well i did pick her up while she was doing it. She stopped and nothing happend. She is in her new tub now.
she isnt a agressive feeder, i have her for about 5 weeks now and she only ate once. That is also the reason i put her in a different tub now, it is bigger but no light comes in. So i am hoping she will eat next monday when it is feeding day again.
