Retic Hatchling
Unfortunately due to the ban coming in effect I had to purchase two retic hatchlings about only a week out the egg. I got details from the breeder on waiting for first shed to feed. Due to the fact I have never dealt with a hatchling I wanted to know how do I induce feeding after that. I have only frozen thawed rat pups. All my retics feed unassisted so I'm used to just leaving food in their tub. Also they both have hides they quickly jumped into. Right now its on the cool side of the tub. Because My two older retics have opposite habits, one moved his hide to the cool side while my female moved hers to heated side. So I'm at a loss to where to move the hatchlings hide. Might be freaking out but these guys are so small and fragile it's like a have a couple of worms with big silver eyes looking at me. Really their eyeballs are almost the same size of their head. I love'em!! Any advice would be welcomes. Thanks

Ive never had hatchling retics right out of the egg, but for my baby boas I always do live rat pups for their first meal. They usually have enough movements to induce a feeding response but aren't fast enough to spook the baby. If you have access to that I would go with that. Retics have an amazing feeding response and they might even take frozen thawed. Retics are pretty hardy, Im sure they will be eat well.

Wait till their first shed - keep their humidity up pretty consistent on the high side. Once the skin comes off, use forceps to offer f/t at a nice warm temperature. Do the zombie dance and you should get some takers. If not, you may have to start with live prey, but most will take to f/t almost immediately.

Retics are my passion. Just ask.

Re: Retic Hatchling
Thanks for all the advice. All my hatchling finished their first shed. Now the feeding is another story. My female is a champ. First time feeding with live then ft pinkies was a success. My male I had to put in a 6 qt overnight for him to eat. But he did take FT also. All the advice and reading older threads gave me a lot of insight. But the best I learned was patience. All my hatchlings have very good demeanor and I'm lucky to have 4 retics that are calm for now. Thanks everyone!!

Thanks! Here's one of my anery hatchling that did his first shed. His sisters from the same clutch so they look the same. Only difference is he's a shy eater and his sister strikes so hard it scares me!
