    Stuck sheds dangerous?

So I'm waiting to check out of a hotel here in DC and killing some time watching snake videos on YT and in one the guy makes several references to sheds that are stuck being a serious health issue for snakes. Now this breeder handles venomous snakes so perhaps its different for them but can a stuck shed actually be dangerous to a snakes health even fatal?
Just curious what others have heard.
    Cheers, Jeff

    Can it? Yes
Stuck shed pieces are not a huge thing but if it is a complete shed then yes it can be a major health issue.

Just off the top of my head, eye damage, blindness or loss from retained eyecaps, possible restriction of blood flow may be in a tail tip, depressed or non existent appetite. Is a little stuck from one bad shed a serious issue? Not normally. Can be if the problems don't get corrected.
Where are we going, and why am I in this handbasket?

The worry is that they can cut off circulation if left on over multiple Sheds. Personally I've never experienced it, but I've seen pictures of bp missing a few inchess of tail or its blacks and rotting off. Can it happen? Yes. but if it does its more of a husbandry issue than anything else. Fix humidity and sheds should clear.

Thanks guys, I wasn't sure just how serious it could be, I've never had any get that even remotely that bad. My worst one was last fall on my Super Pastel where I had to soak her and use a hand towel. I had just never heard anyone state that it could be fatal to the snake before.

Like others have said the biggest issue to worry about is ischemic necrosis in restricted areas like tail tips, as well as eye caps. That being said, I have seen rescued snakes in vet clinics that look like they haven't had a normal shed in years. After soaking we literally had to help peel layers of shed off the animal, and it lived to be a happy healthy snake. Don't freak out. Just soak snake in warm water, grab a damp towel and gently let the snake move through it.

I'm not freaked out, I've never really had a problem with shedding with my guys. It was from a YouTube video by Viperkeeper where he mentioned the severity of stuck sheds. I was just curious if it was true and it apparently is, now in his case he's trying to help a black mamba out of a stuck shed which is altogether frightening and entertaining all at once. I've been hooked on his videos for weeks now but believe me I have no interest in owning venomous reptiles. LOL

    Re: Stuck sheds dangerous?

Stuck sheds can also become problematic when it involves the airways inside the nostrils. Shedding occurs there also... so be careful.
