    Tank size?

How do I know when it is time to upgrade the tank size? She went from a 10 gal to a 29 tall gallon in about 2 months.. So when should I change this tank and to what size??

Assuming it is a girl and doesn't get really large, a 40 gallon breeder could work but of course bigger the better to a point. You got to remember, you need to be able to keep correct heat and humidity and the bigger the cage, the more work it is to keep that. But bottom line, a male or normal size female can live in a 40 gallon breeder. Extra large females will need something bigger. Now for my advice, next time you go to upgrade the tank, check out PVC/HDPE cages and go for one of those. They are more designed for snakes and keep heat/humidity and snake inside better.

As a general rule a lot of folks like to go with the 3/4 rule.

The tank is 3/4 the length of the snake.

Of course you can't always get exact, and you need to plan for the future. This can be offset with a larger tank with more clutter and plenty of the correct sized hides.
The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

It is a girl had the vet check her and right now heat and humidity aren't a problem we have it figured out

Floorspace is more important than volume, especially for snakes that spend most of their time on the ground or in hides like BPs, so anything above 12" height is just decoration, or more versatile if you plan on keeping something else, and can keep the humidity/temps right. General guideline is length+width of the tank is good for a snake around that length, but probably more appropriate is about 1 foot of snake for 1 sq ft of cage. Of course it's a guideline, a large 5' active female going into a nice display terrarium might use and enjoy a 4'X2' cage, a shy slender 4'male breeder might do best in a dark and quiet 30x18 rack bin.

Well in that case, if I were you, I would just use that cage until the snake fully stretched out goes the full length of the front and one side. Then I would look into something like an Animal Plastics T-8 which is less than $100 more than you would pay for a 40 gallon breeder(36x18x16). A T-8 is 48x24x12 which will easily hold even a large female BP for her whole life with room to spare and like I said, they are priced very good($195 shipped to me). It also depends how active your snake is. Ball pythons aren't known for their activity. Dottie only really comes out when she is hungry or she has to poop or wants to drink water. 90% of the time she is content to sit in her hide with just her head poking out. Now both my BCI boas are much more active so for them, they do need a larger cage as they use all the space.

Hey hey you posted this in the Facebook group I'm in too I think! Lol or very similar posts. I am hoping to upgrade my tank depending on how fast my girl grows. I agree with Sauzo too in that T-8s seem to be a good choice for BPs as unless you have a really active BP who would use the space (and more cleaning difficulty for you) of a 40 gallon breeder.
