Feeding live
Hi everyone.... Ginger hasn't eaten since October 8. She was raised on frozen/thawed mice and had progressed to small rats.
I went to the pet store and bought a live mouse to tempt her appetite. Anything that I should know before I give it to her?
TIA,
Pamela

Make sure the Mouse is calm and well fed. Keep a pencil or somethimg near by in case the Mouse tries to bite your snake. How much does your Snake weight

Re: Feeding live
You'll be fine with your snake being that size and it only being a mouse. You really don't need to worry that much until med size rats.
Had a med try and chomp on one and I quickly had to grab it's mouth and break it's jaw..

Ok, so I put the mouse in and Ginger couldn't care less......I put the mouse in her hide and I could see it crawl over Ginger to come out. The mouse was standing on her back! And she just lay there! Omg, I don't know what the hell to do now.....

Kill the mouse and put it in the freezer.

Take the Mouse out. What is the Snake's weight? How long have you had the Snake?

If ginger is a female then she is probably just fasting right now. Nothing to worry about.

Put the mouse in the enclosure (you don't need to actually put it in her hide with her), close up the enclosure, and check back in 30 minutes. She may just want to be left alone while she eats instead of having someone place a mouse in her hide and then stand there and watch.
It is okay to use pine bedding for snakes.
It is okay to feed live food to snakes.
