Temperature question

I have a stack of 4 - 36x23x14 Constrictors Nortwhest enclosures housing 4 Ball Pythons. I am currently Pro-products radient panels on one side of the enclosure (awsome setup provided by these guys). This is my first experince with such a large floor space for the Balls which provides quite a broad temperature gradient. I was wondering if right under the heat source was to hot? The temp is under the heating element is 105 the center is 85 and the opposite end is 80. The front of the enclosure from heating element side over is 85, center 80, opposite end 78. They have been in here for a couple months and seem to be doing fine (most of the time in there hides on the opposite end of the heat) eating, active at night, good sheds, etc. It would be a major pain to replace the heating elements so I was wondering if over the long term this is a bad set up.

If the rhp are not on a thermostat they need to be.

Your hotspot should be 88-92 so yes 105 is too high.

Purchasing a VE 300X2. The only question I have is the best way to secure the probe. Underneath the heating element.

I'm using a Pro-Line 48x23x14 with a Pro Products for my BCI and the way I did it was hang the Herpstat probe about 2 inches to the left of the RHP and put it about 2 inches from the substrate so my snake doesn't sit on it when she sits under her RHP. Then dial in the Herpstat to get the right temps you need while using a temp gun. For me, it meant setting my Herpstat to 85F which gave me around a 90F basking spot. My advice though is don't place the probe on the inside floor of the cage because if your snake sits on it, spills water on it or pees on it, that will throw off the temp and cause the RHP to to turn on.

Decided on a Herpstat. Based on my configuration in the initial post can a Herpstat owner suggest a model? There's a bunch!

I'd suggest a Herpstat 4. That should cover all 4 enclosures. I have multiple terrariums as well and that's what I use to control the RHPs.
