Ambient VS Surface Temps

Hey y'all

my husbandry is good, so this is more of a question out of curiosity and wanting to learn.

What is more important? Ambient or surface temps.

For example if your surface temp was 85-88 degrees on your warm side and 78-82 on the cold side would it be ok to have an ambient at around 75-77 degrees?

Or if your ambient temps were up at around 86 degrees but the surface temps were cooler. 77-79 on cool side 80-82 on warm side?

would like to hear thoughts and opinions.

No UTH here... My snake room is kept at 85ish degrees F. All snakes and lizard are doing fantastic!

I'd second ambient temps. All my terrariums get heated by Radiant Heat Panels (RHPs) and my BPs are doing great. Most big breeders just heat the room of their collection to about mid to low 80s and call it a day.

Ambients, I don't like providing only belly heat for any of my snakes if I can help it. Unfortunately, my BRB's tub is too small for me to feel comfortable modding it to use a heat lamp, and even if I did it would dry out the air too much to use, so he gets heat tape. When I move him to a PVC enclosure I plan on using an RHP to heat.
