    Unhappy First bad shed

Hey guys. Long time no post!

My one and a half year-old ball python is having her first difficult shed. Every shed before this has more or less been in one piece. I woke up this morning and her tanks humidity was around 30% so I knew I was in for problems. Being that I am in Upstate New York the winters here get pretty dry and humidity management gets tough.

She had managed to shed off her head and both eye caps however. Everything I've read online is about increasing the tanks humidity to help with the rest of the shed. I didn't have time to fiddle around for long because I had to get to work. So what I did was gave her a quick bath under warm water, put her back in her tank, and used a spray bottle of water to lightly mist the tank. This in-turn shot the humidity right back up to the 70-80% range.

Okay, a little bit about the tank because I'm sure you guys will want to know. I have her in the standard plastic Tupperware tote with air holes on the side and the top with two under tank heatpads both regulated by temperature regulators to assure a 10° grade. She has two hides one on the cool side one on the warm side and one of those hides is actually a water bowl. Like a puppy water dish so she can both hide underneath it and have a source of water. She currently does not use a substrate I've pretty much been just doing a breeder style. Actually come to think of it though I haven't had newspaper in there for about a week which might make sense as to why I'm having problems regulating humidity.

Anyhow, long story short I guess what I'm asking is what a bad shed will do to her health/mentally. Being again that she is a year and a half and this is the first shed like this I'm obviously a little bit concerned. Any help would be appreciated and of course I will welcome any suggestions.

She is starting to get a little big for her hides anyhow so I need to make her a new tank here quickly.

    First bad shed

Firstly if you're having trouble with humidity try orchid bark, mulch etc.. For the substrate

Also why not try a hide box made especially for high humidity if you are struggling to keep the humidity up? Get some moss and put it inside the hide box and the BP can use it when it needs it.

Having one bad shed won't do anything mentally to the BP I wouldn't think, just check the eyes and the tail to make sure there is no stuck shed, these are the two places that could cause problems if they have stuck shed.

Your BP will need all round good husbandry temps, humidity etcc.. For a perfect shed so try and get everything sorted now.

If there is still stuck shed then get a warm damp towel and let your BP slide through it and apply
gentle minimum pressure, keep doing this and hopefully you will get all the shed off.
